    Falklands Air Planning Commander Killed in Plane Crash

    The Air Marshal who planned the role of the Royal Air Force in the recovery of the Falkland Islands and earlier pioneered the introduction of the Harrier jump-jet which played a vital role in the 1982 Conflict, has been killed in an air crash.

    When the Falkland Islands population are asked to vote in a General Election in November, not only will they be voting for a new Legislative Council, but also on a major Constitutional change. After a long period of consultation it has been decided to ask the voters if they wish to abolish the current two-constituency system and in future opt for a Single Constituency within the Islands.

    Lan Chile Falklands Service: Formal announcement can be expected within the next month.

    BBC World Service Radio reported yesterday (Friday) that discussions between the Falkland Islands Government, Lan Chile and the British military (who administer the Falklands international airport) have reached a detailed stage, and that a formal announcement about a rescheduling of services can be expected within the next four weeks. It has also been confirmed that the Chilean airline is seriously considering doubling its Falklands service to two flights a week.

    The Foreign Office in London was alleged to have adopted ?a political approach' when over-ruling a decision by the Director of Fisheries for South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands after he had intended to grant a lucrative long-lining fishing license to a Falklands registered Company, to catch Mero (toothfish), it was stated in Court in Stanley on Friday.
