Longliner returning to NZ from Falklands forced to comply with “bubble” when they reach home

The crew and passengers of the New Zealand San Aotea II longline fishing trawler, making their way back from the Falkland Islands, will be forced to spend up to four days onboard the vessel once it reaches Timaru to satisfy Covid-19 regulations.

Falklands: 80 days with no coronavirus positive tested cases; 14 days quarantine for all arriving passengers

The Falkland Islands government, FIG, reported on Wednesday that 1816 coronavirus tests have been processed, with no positive results received for over eighty days. FIG also announced new quarantine guidance issued to arriving passengers. In effect following the introductn of Quarantine Regulations a new document is being issued to provide simple guidance on how to meet the requirements of quarantine.

Falklands' new port works scheduled to begin at the end of the month

British contractor BAM Nuttall is set to start work at the end of this month on a new port for the Falklands Islands. The existing facilities will be replaced. BAM Nuttall was chosen by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) in February to carry out the design and build contract for the new port. The contract was signed in early April but was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Falklands/UK Airbridge limits seats for civilian passengers

Quarantine requirements both in the United Kingdom and the Falkland Islands, combined with global restrictions in air travel, have led to changes to the South Atlantic Airbridge scheduling, it was announced by the Islands' government.
Specifically, civilian passengers can only travel Southbound on every third flight.
