    The 1,985 inhabitants of Stanley, the tiny capital of the Falkland Islands, like to pride themselves on their hospitality, but this reputation was put to the test and everyone came out to help in the “best Falkland Islands style”, when high winds and rough seas left 936 cruise ship passengers and 63 crew stranded there overnight.

    In their first meeting of 2005, held on Thursday 27 January, the Executive Council of the Falkland Islands (ExCo) agreed that a budget of £150,000 should be set aside to fund celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Islands' liberation from Argentina in 1982.

    At its meeting of January 27th, 2005, the Falkland Islands Executive Council considered a report on importation and quarantine procedures produced by New Zealand consultants, Biosecurity Ltd, which was forwarded to them, for information, after preliminary consideration by the FIG Agricultural Advisory Committee in December last year and reported on by Mercopress at the time.
