The tiny Southern Chilean village of Tortel, unheard of by anyone outside this isolated part of Patagonia, has suddenly been thrust into the news spotlight in Britain and around the world.
The Argentine Government has been accused by former Falkland Islands Governor Sir Rex Hunt of retrograde behaviour in shunning Falkland Islanders while persisting with what he calls Argentina's anachronistic claim to sovereignty over the Islands.
Battle Day ceremonies in the Falkland Islands and in London this weekend (December 8th and 9th) commemorate the Battle of the Falkland Islands on 8th December, 1914. Wreaths are laid every year at the Battle Memorial in Stanley and at the Cenotaph in the heart of London.
