Argentina's Foreign Ministry opened a registry for nationals of the country wishing to flee war-torn Israel while the deaths of four Argentine citizens were confirmed on Sunday afternoon. Two other Argentines were reported missing.
Uruguayan authorities reported Sunday that the South American country's peacekeeping troops in the Middle East were not affected by the Hamas attacks against Israel over the weekend. The Uruguayan Army troops deployed in Syria (UNDOF mission) and Egypt (MFO mission) are not involved and are in perfect condition, the Defense Ministry said in Montevideo.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) expects international trade to grow by 0.8% this year, down from the 1.7% estimated in April. In its updated forecasts released this week, the organization justifies the downgrade with an inflationary environment, rising interest rates in the United States and the European Union, as well as tension in the Chinese real estate market.

The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks monthly changes in the international prices of globally-traded food commodities, averaged 121.5 points in September, compared to 121.4 points in August. At this level, the index is 10.7% below its value a year ago and 24.0% below its all-time high reached in March 2022.
Imprisoned Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her tireless campaign for women's rights and against the death penalty. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hailed Ms Narges and the Peace Prize as a tribute to all those women who are fighting for their rights at the risk of their freedom, health and lives.
