    PAHO says more COVID-19 vaccines needed

    Chile, Uruguay and Canada have fully injected three-quarters of their population.

    Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Assistant Director Jarbas Barbosa Wednesday urged G20 leaders meeting this coming weekend at Rome's Summit to donate more COVID-19 vaccines because the region's improvements in the fight against the disease were shadowed by steps backward in the most impoverished territories and Caribbean Islands.

    BAS and WWF invite the public to work on a “Walrus from Space” census

    British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and WWF are seeking the public’s help to search for walrus in thousands of satellite images taken from space, with the aim of learning more about how walrus will be impacted by the climate crisis. It’s hoped half a million people worldwide will join the new “Walrus from Space” research project, a census of Atlantic walrus and walrus from the Laptev Sea, using satellite images provided by space and intelligence company Maxar Technologies’ DigitalGlobe.

    Dutch submariners receive an unexpected visitor on board Walrus class unit

    The Royal Netherlands Navy Submarine Service tweeted a video of whiskered Freya resting aboard HNLMS Dolfijn, with the message: “Welcome on board shipmate.”

    It was a conundrum faced by Dutch submariners when a flippered mammal they named 'Freya' climbed on top of one of their – aptly named – Walrus-class submarines.

    Brazil envisions plans to cut down Amazon deforestation while developing other activities in the rainforest

    ”We cannot abandon the possibility of exploiting the great mining wealth of the Amazon,” Mourão said.

    Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture estimated this week 1 million hectares per year will suffer deforestation until the year 2030, despite Vice President Hamilton Mourão's announcement Monday that plans to avoid it would be announced at the upcoming 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP-26) in Glasgow.

    ICC Prosecutor on 10-day mission to Colombia and Venezuela

    The visits reflect Prosecutor Khan's commitment to increase direct engagement with the region, and to explore avenues for cooperation in line with the principle of complementarity

    Since Monday and until 3 November, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Mr Karim A.A. Khan QC, will undertake a 10-day mission to Latin America, which will include official visits to the Republic of Colombia and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
