    A Salvadoran court Monday sentenced former President Mauricio Funes (2009-2014) to 14 years in prison for his alleged negotiations with criminal gangs. Funes, currently living in Nicaragua, got 8 years for illicit groupings and 6 years for breach of duty. Nicaragua gave him citizenship in 2019.

    New strain of Covid-19 virus detected in Ecuador

    The new variant has already been identified in other Latin American countries such as Guatemala, Chile and Brazil.

    Ecuadorian authorities have reported the appearance of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 in the South American country and upped the biosecurity measures in force accordingly, it was announced during the weekend by the National Institute of Public Health Research (INSPI) in Quito, where the asymptomatic patient is.

    India’s exports to Latin America reached a record high of 22.41 billion dollars in 2022-23 (April-March), according to the latest release from the Commerce Ministry of India. Exports increased by an impressive 19% from US$ 18.89 billion in 2021-22, exceeding the 6.86% increase in India’s global exports.
