    Confusion in Brazilian diplomacy on a long awaited reply to EU on the trade agreement

    A meeting between EU and Mercosur negotiators was scheduled for Sept. 15 in Brasilia, chaired by Brazil, Vieira said, but diplomats cautioned it had not been confirmed

    Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said this week that Mercosur had sent the European Union their position on a European addendum to their long-awaited trade agreement. However, despite the announcement it was revealed that Uruguay and Paraguay have yet to present their positions in writing, diplomatic sources said in both countries.

     The King, who said he recalled his mother with “great affection”, has released a portrait of her taken by Cecil Beaton in 1968 when she was 42.

    King Charles III has remembered his late mother's “devoted service” and “all she meant” to the country on the first anniversary of her death. Queen Elizabeth II died on 8 September last year. She was 96.

    Kidnapped Ecuadorian councilman found dead

    Councilman Bolívar Vera, 42, of the municipality of Durán was kidnapped and murdered in a new episode of Ecuador's political violence saga one month ahead of the presidential runoff. Vera's body was found Friday on a road in the rural sector of Salitre with his hands tied in the province of Guayas, it was also reported. He had been reported missing on Thursday, Sept. 7.
