Boeing will tailor its compensation to airlines for the 737 MAX grounding around customer preference, and they could be paid back in services instead of cash, Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg said on Wednesday.
Boeing acknowledged it had to correct flaws in its 737 MAX flight simulator software used to train pilots, after two deadly crashes involving the aircraft that killed 346 people.
American Airlines is extending the cancellation of its Boeing 737 Max 8 flights from June until mid-August. The move is to provide confidence to customers during the peak summer travel season, the airline said in a letter. Last month, 737 Max aircraft were grounded worldwide following fatal crashes involving Ethiopian Airlines and Indonesia's Lion Air.
