Bolivia's full Mercosur membership greenlighted

Brazil's Senate Tuesday greenlighted Bolivia's accession to the South American Common Market (Mercosur) as a full member of the bloc. Once President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva enacts the bill, the regional alliance will once again consist of five full members -in addition to Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay- as it once happened when Venezuela was admitted but later suspended in 2017 for its undemocratic practices.

Bolivia severs diplomatic ties with Israel

Bolivian Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani Machaca announced Tuesday that the South American country “condemns the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive being carried out in the Gaza Strip” and was thenceforth breaking diplomatic relations with Israel in “repudiation” of such acts. The Bolivian government made no mention of Hamas' Oct. 7 attacks.
