  Foreign direct investment in Latam remains strong and increases 6% in first half of 2013

  

  Foreign direct investment (FDI) to Latin America displayed moderate growth in the first half of this year, compared with the 2012 similar period, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The 13 countries of the region that provided data received 102.951 billion dollars, which was 6% higher than the first six months of the previous year.

  A total of 6,164,682 requests for tickets for the 2014 FIFA World Cup had been received when the initial application period ended on Thursday 10 October 2013, of which 70.86% were from Brazil, with the remaining 29.14% from the rest of the world.

  Brazil begins next year work on new Antarctic base at a cost of 54m dollars

  

  Brazil said on Thursday it will start work early next year on a new Antarctic base to replace the one gutted by a 2012 fire. The new station would be modern and built with more resistant material, Navy Admiral Julio Soares de Moura told reporters as he unveiled the 54 million dollar project.

  Brazilian annual inflation to September the lowest in nine months

  

  Annual inflation in Brazil reached its lowest level in nine months, but the country still shows signs it hasn't yet come to grips with persistently higher prices. Brazil's 12-month inflation reading continued to retreat, falling to 5.86% in September, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, said Wednesday.

  Brazil wants to catch the spies and will host global summit on Internet governance next April

  

  Brazil, which has slammed massive US electronic spying on its territory, said on Wednesday it would host a global summit on Internet governance in April. President Dilma Rousseff made the announcement after conferring in Brasilia with Fadi Chehade, chief executive of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

  Brazil expected to announce “the largest oil discovery in the world this year”

  

  Petrobras CEO Maria das Gracas Foster described as ‘simply exceptional’ the latest discovery of hydrocarbons off the coast of the north-eastern state of Sergipe on the Atlantic but declined to give further details of the prospect. Even when the Brazilian administration has abstained from making any announcement the Sergipe government has said “it is the largest oil discovery in the world this year”.
