  Corporal punishment of children banned by law in Wales

  

  Effective Monday, Wales has banned all sorts of bodily punishment on children, which are still legal in England and Northern Ireland. Slapping or even shaking a child is tantamount to assault perpetrated against an adult, according to the new rules in force. Until Sunday, slapping was tolerated if it was a “reasonable punishment.”

  Chile's President Sebastian Pinera Thursday signed into law on Thursday a bill whereby the statute of limitations on sex crimes involving children ceases to apply. However, the new law is not retroactive as some lawmakers intended during parliamentary deliberation.

  Ex Vatican treasurer sentenced to six years in jail for sexually abusing choir boys

  

  Former Vatican treasurer Cardinal George Pell was sentenced to 6 years in jail on Wednesday by an Australian court for sexually abusing two choir boys in Melbourne in the 1990s. Pell, a former top adviser to Pope Francis, is the most senior Catholic worldwide to be convicted for child sex offences.

  Australian Catholic archbishop sentenced 12 months for concealing child abuse

  

  Catholic archbishop in Australia has been given a maximum sentence of 12 months in detention for concealing child sexual abuse in the 1970s. Philip Wilson, now archbishop of Adelaide, is the most senior Catholic globally to be convicted of the crime.
