    Uruguay signs Council of Europe’s Global AI Treaty

    Uruguay signed the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, the first-ever international legally binding treaty aimed at ensuring that the use of AI systems is fully consistent with human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

    Council of Europe adopts first international treaty on artificial intelligence

    The convention is the outcome of two years' work by an intergovernmental body, the Committee on Artificial Intelligence, CAI.

    The Council of Europe has adopted the first-ever international legally binding treaty aimed at ensuring the respect of human rights, the rule of law and democracy legal standards in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

    Council of Europe blasts Spain on law enforcement authorities’ violations

    “Authorities should ensure that law enforcement officials fully abide by international human rights standards”, said Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Mulznieks

    Spain has been warned about the conduct of its law enforcement authorities in a new Council of Europe report. “Ill-treatment by and impunity of members of law enforcement agencies is a very serious, long-standing human rights issue for which Spain has already been condemned by international bodies” reads the study.

    Council of Europe promotes personal data protection in Latin America

    The Council of Europe is promoting international co-operation in the field of personal data protection, in particular by encouraging non member states to ratify the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, also known as Convention 108. Uruguay has started the process for its ratification and therefore may become the first non-Council of Europe member state to accede to the convention.
