Britain's Education Secretary Damian Hinds says it is a scandal that some children still start school unable to speak in full sentences or read simple words. Children who start school behind their peers rarely catch up - the gap just widens, Hinds will say in a speech pledging halve the number of pupils starting school behind in early talking and reading skills by 2028.
European Union students at universities in England will continue to be treated the same as home students in the first intake after Brexit. UK Education Secretary Damian Hinds says EU students starting in autumn 2019 will pay the same tuition fees as English ones and their access to support will be unchanged.
The British embassy in Iran has reopened, nearly four years after it was closed. Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond attended a ceremony on Sunday in Teheran with Iranian diplomats to mark the reopening while Iran has also reopened its embassy in London.
