  Diesel emissions scandal: Volkswagen's ex CEO charged in Germany

  

  The former chief executive of the carmaker Volkswagen has been charged in Germany over his involvement in the company's diesel emissions scandal. The public prosecutor in Braunschweig charged Martin Winterkorn and four other managers with fraud. VW said it would not comment on the indictments.

  Daimler, the German car maker that owns Mercedes-Benz, will be run by a non-German for the first time next year. Dieter Zetsche, 65, will be replaced by Ola Kaellenius, a 49-year-old Swede, as chief executive in a succession plan announced on Wednesday.
