Delegations of the Gibraltar and United Kingdom Governments have met in Gibraltar on Friday for a full day of discussions covering a wide range of issues.
British PM Theresa May and Scotland’s First Minister clashed at a Downing St Brexit summit dominated by a “very frank exchange of views”, Nicola Sturgeon revealed. Ms Sturgeon branded a warning from Number 10 that the devolved administrations must not try to undermine the UK’s negotiating position as “nonsense” as she labelled the talks between the PM and the leaders of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as “deeply frustrating”.
Gibraltar Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Joseph Garcia has said it should be possible for different parts of the British family of nations to enjoy varying degrees of participation with the European Union in the future. Dr. Garcia was speaking in Glasgow during the Scottish National Party conference, in the presence of Scotland’s Minister for Europe and International Development Dr. Alisdair Allan MSP.

The event opened in Glasgow on Wednesday and this is the first time that Gibraltar will have an exhibition stand. It is also the first time that the Gibraltar Government will host an official reception.
Gibraltar Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia, has written to the European Commission in order to set the record straight following ‘misinformation’ about Gibraltar propagated by a Spanish MEP. This comes after the Spanish MEP, Ramon Jauregui Atondo, tabled a question before the European Parliament in which he said that Gibraltar ‘facilitates tax evasion and financial crime’.
Gibraltar has accused Spain of having chosen once again not to behave as European partners as a result of the latest pedestrian delays at the border. The Gibraltar Office in Brussels was asked to relay information to the European Commission on the latest delays caused by the introduction of an Automated Border Control system on the Spanish side.
The Gibraltar Government has included the long queues of last Thursday afternoon at the frontier with Spain in its latest report to the European Union. Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia said the report will be presented “in order to draw attention to the manner in which the Spanish government is implementing the recommendations made by the commission”.

In a busy schedule Dr Garcia held meetings at the offices of both Democratic and Republican members of Congress on Capitol Hill.
Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia are in Washington DC for a series of commercial and political meetings, which took off at the US Chamber of Commerce building in order to support the formal accreditation of AmCham Gibraltar.
The people of the non-self governing territories on the United Nations list, like Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands, have to be decolonised in accordance with the wishes of those people in exercise of the right of self determination, said Gibraltar Deputy Chief minister Dr. Joseph Garcia during the opening of the academic symposium on “Self-determination, devolution and independence in the 21st century”
