A senior adviser to the German government fears another European financial crisis could be brewing. Dr. Lars Feld, one of the German Council of Economic Experts, was one of the first last year to warn of a slowdown in Europe's largest economy.

EC fines five leading global banks €1.07bn for rigging foreign exchange markets

Five banks have been fined €1.07bn (£935m) by the European Commission after traders clubbed together to rig the foreign exchange market. Four banks in the “Banana Split” cartel - Barclays, RBS, Citigroup and JP Morgan - were fined €811m in all.

Austria votes to bans the headscarf in primary schools

Austrian MPs on Wednesday approved a law aimed at banning the headscarf in primary schools, a measure proposed by the ruling right-wing government. So as to avoid charges that the law discriminates against Muslims, the text refers to any “ideologically or religiously influenced clothing which is associated with the covering of the head”.
