    Gibraltar new governor takes office June: Lieutenant General Sir Benjamin Bathurst

    The new Governor arrives in Gibraltar having served most recently as the UK’s military representative to NATO and the EU.

    Lieutenant General Sir Benjamin Bathurst, KCVO, CBE, has been appointed as the next Governor of Gibraltar, in succession to Vice Admiral Sir David Steel KBE, KStJ, DL. Sir Benjamin will take up the post in June 2024, with Sir David set to depart Gibraltar towards the end of May 2024.

    Gibraltar: New Governor a Royal Navy man

    Sir David took a stroll down Main Street from the Parliament to his new home at the Convent.  On the way he talked to a number of people, including the Chief Rabbi Ron Hassid

    This morning Gibraltar’s new governor was sworn in at the Gibraltar Parliament. Normally this is a high profile event with a guard of honour, residents lining the street outside and a packed crowd in the public gallery and a flurry of photographers. Sadly Sir David Steel missed out on that part of his welcome due to the COVID crisis.

    Sir James Benjamin Dutton appointed Governor of Gibraltar

    The incoming governor completed a full career of 37 years in the Royal Marines

    Lieutenant-General Sir James Benjamin Dutton KCB CBE has been appointed Governor of Gibraltar and will take his appointment during next December. Sir James succeeds Vice-Admiral Sir Adrian Johns KCB CBE.
