Lieutenant General Sir Benjamin Bathurst, KCVO, CBE, has been appointed as the next Governor of Gibraltar, in succession to Vice Admiral Sir David Steel KBE, KStJ, DL. Sir Benjamin will take up the post in June 2024, with Sir David set to depart Gibraltar towards the end of May 2024.
This morning Gibraltar’s new governor was sworn in at the Gibraltar Parliament. Normally this is a high profile event with a guard of honour, residents lining the street outside and a packed crowd in the public gallery and a flurry of photographers. Sadly Sir David Steel missed out on that part of his welcome due to the COVID crisis.
Lieutenant-General Sir James Benjamin Dutton KCB CBE has been appointed Governor of Gibraltar and will take his appointment during next December. Sir James succeeds Vice-Admiral Sir Adrian Johns KCB CBE.
