  Work begins in Royal Navy’s new Type 31 frigate HMS Formidable

  

  With a blinding arc of light as the laser cutter sliced through steel plate, work started this week on the Royal Navy’s new frigate HMS Formidable. Watched by political, military and business leaders – as well as the hundreds of skilled engineers and technicians – local MP Graeme Downie pressed the button to set the machine in motion at Babcock’s state-of-the-art facility in Rosyth.

  First steel cut on second Type 31 Frigate, HMS Active

  

  Construction is underway on the second Type 31 frigate being built for the Royal Navy. The first steel has been cut on HMS Active at the Babcock shipyard in Fife, by Defense Minister Alex Chalk.

  Royal Navy's Type 31 frigates have names; HMS Active recalls her predecessor and Falklands liberation

  

  The names of five next-generation Type-31 frigates for the Royal Navy have been announced. Approved by HM The Queen, the vessels will be named HMS Active, HMS Bulldog, HMS Campbeltown, HMS Formidable and HMS Venturer.
