The budget carrier JetSmart announced this week that starting May 29 it will be offering two daily flights between the airports of Buenos Aires Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) and Montevideo's Carrasco. The official ceremony was held at the residence of Uruguay's Ambassador in Argentina Carlos Enciso, who was said to be pivotal in brokering these services since 2021 to add to those offered by Aerolíneas Argentinas.
Uruguayan Tourism Minister Tabaré Viera welcomed the return of budget carrier Sky Airlines to the country, connecting Montevideo's Carrasco International Airport with Santiago (Chile), Lima (Peru), Salvador, and Florianópolis (Brazil) with direct services, starting in 2024.

Chilean budget carrier JetSmart has announced it will start serving Uruguay as of January 18 with tickets available for as low as US $ 20. The airline plans to offer three weekly flights between the capital cities of Chile and Uruguay with Airbus 320 aircraft which have a capacity of 186 seats.
JetSMART, Chile's ultra low cost airline is planning to link Santiago with Punta Arenas as of next December, charging some 8.000 Chilean Pesos for each leg, plus boarding taxes, 15.500 Pesos, according to the company's CEO Estuardo Ortiz. The exchange rate is approx Pesos 600 to the US dollar.
