King Charles III was greeted by a crowd as he arrived at Buckingham Palace Friday for the first time as the British monarch following Queen Elizabeth II's passing the day before at Balmoral Castle, although he will be officially proclaimed as such Saturday morning.
A new king has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace. Formerly known to the nation as Prince Charles, the 73-year-old who up until this point occupied the position of heir apparent to the British throne, is now the country's reigning monarch.
Russian president Vladimir Putin has sent his condolences after the death of the Queen at the age of 96. Despite the tensions over the war in Ukraine, Mr Putin reached out to King Charles III in a telegram.
