On Tuesday 30th July, a group of Ranger Guides from the Falkland Islands visited the Houses of Parliament to meet with the Speaker of the House of Commons, The Rt. Hon Lindsay Hoyle MP.
This week Falkland Islands Representative in London, Richard Hyslop presented the House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle with a 40th Anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands framed stamped envelope.
Prime minister Boris Johnson said that “now things are a bit quieter in Westminster”, he might be able to visit the Falkland Islands, pointing out he was probably the only person at the Speaker's House ceremony who has never visited the Islands.
On Sunday, marking the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation of Goose Green, East Falkland, and despite a brisk wind blowing snow across the monument, a service of commemoration was held to remember those who gave their lives in the battle.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle Speaker of the House of Commons, currently on a visit to the Falkland Islands announced he will attend Sunday's Goose Green Liberation commemoration, called on the Falklands Legislative to take advantage of his chairmanship to promote initiatives for the benefit of the Islands, and underlined that Islanders can only decide Islanders' self-determination and future.
