    Brazilian production wins Oscar for Best Picture in Foreign Language

    Brazilians celebrated it as if it was another football title when Walter Salles' “Ainda Estou Aqui” (“I'm Still Here”) won the Oscar for Best Film in a Foreign Language. It was the first time a production from the South American country received such an accolade. The movie tells the story of a family during Brazil's military dictatorship (1964-1985).

    Petrobras orders four homebuilt tankers

    Brazil's shipbuilding industry hopes to bounce back with this agreement

    Brazil's State-run oil company Petrobras and its subsidiary Transpetro Monday signed a contract for the building of four Handy-class tankers, each costing US$ 69.5 million, with a total investment of US$ 278 million. The new ships will become a part of Petrobras' Fleet Renewal and Expansion Program. The ceremony in Rio Grande do Sul was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin, and other officials.

    Lula welcomes Portugal's President and Prime Minister in Brazil

    Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva welcomed Portugal's Heads of State and Government Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro respectively, to launch a series of bilateral vents to take place in the South American country. The Free Trade Agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU) will also be on the agenda. The Workers' Party leader had been to Portugal in 2023.
