Falklands agrees to education facilities for secondary age children from MPC

Falkland Islands Executive Council (ExCo) has agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) be signed between the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) that will allow secondary-age children from Mount Pleasant Complex (MPC) to board at Stanley House and study at the Falkland Islands Community School (FICS) from the start of the 2025 academic year.

Lula warns UN ain't what it used to be

Speaking at the Brazil-France Business Forum in Paris, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva insisted Friday that the United Nations (UN) amounted to very little presently, unlike in its heyday. “We don't have global governance today,” Lula argued. The UN “represents almost anything,” he added. “The UN created the State of Israel in 1947; why doesn't it create the State of Palestine now? Because it doesn't have the strength.”

Tremor in northern Chile felt nationwide poses no tsunami risk, authorities say

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Chile's Atacama Region Friday at 1.15 pm local time. The epicenter was located 63.49 km west of Chañaral, at a depth of 33 km. So far, no damage to people or infrastructure has been reported, although the tremor was felt in several areas.

There seems to be no love lost between former US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Chief Elon Musk and President Donald Trump following their disagreements over the budget bill. Musk denied having seen the bill before it was passed.

Historic polar ship SS Terra Nova revisited in first-ever wreck survey

An expedition led by the motor yacht MY Legend has completed the first visual survey of the wreck of the SS Terra Nova, offering new insight into one of the most emblematic ships of polar exploration. Located off the coast of Greenland, the wreck was first discovered in 2012, nearly 70 years after the ship sank during World War II.

Uruguayan president and predecessors due together in Buenos Aires for Anne Frank Awards

Brazil enacts measures marking World Environment Day

The Brazilian government announced Thursday a set of environmental measures, including the sanctioning of Bill 3.469/2024, which provides financial collaboration between the Federal Government and states to prevent and combat wildfires. An investment of R$ 32 million (US$ 5.72 million) was allocated for fire prevention and control in the Amazon and Pantanal.

US sanctions International Criminal Court judges over Israel probe

On World Environment Day, beat Plastic Pollution

More than 400 million tons of plastic is produced every year worldwide, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled. An estimated eleven million tons end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually. That is approximately the weight of 2,200 Eiffel Towers all together.
