INTERNATIONAL Sporting endeavour will take centre stage on June 24-30 when the Falkland Islands athletes will join their counterparts from many small Islands around the world to compete in the 17th NatWest Island Games in Gotland.
Despite a tiring 32 hours flight and encountering extremely hot and humid conditions the Falklands football team, playing in their 5th International Island Games competition, took home a bronze medal after defeating the small Norwegian Island of Froya by a 6-0 score line.
The full squad of competitors representing the Falkland Islands at the upcoming NatWest Island Games taking place in Bermuda from July 13 to 19 has been announced.
The visit of one of the 8000 London 2012 Olympic torches to the Falklands has added to the excitement felt in the Islands for the London Olympics.
Falkland Islands competitors and delegates, with patience and persistence, finally managed to skip the volcanic ash cloud and are on their way to the Isle of Wight for the NatWest Island Games which open next Saturday.
