The Argentine Patagonian Province of Neuquén impeached Lieutenant Governor Gloria Ruiz from her office for moral disqualification after a series of irregularities during her term in office. Ruiz had been suspended last month pending a final decision from the Legislature which was passed Thursday.

The Legislature of the Argentine Patagonic province of Neuquén Wednesday suspended Lieutenant-Governor Gloria Ruiz by 29 votes in favor and 5 abstentions on moral grounds for a fraud involving her brother Pablo, whom she had appointed within the Legislative Branch.

Argentine Patagonian provinces elect new governors

The Argentine Patagonian provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén have new governors-elect after Sunday's elections. Opposition candidate Rolando Figueroa brought Movimiento Popular Neuquino's rule to an end after four decades and former Río Negro Governor Alberto Weretilneck was elected back into office. Figueroa and Weretilneck currently hold seats on the federal Lower and Upper Houses respectively.
