Brazil's Health Ministry issued a sanitary bulletin Friday admitting that Oropouche fever has spread nationwide, except for only five out of the 27 States, namely the Federal District (Brasilia), Goiás, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte, and Rio Grande do Sul, Agencia Brasil reported.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued a bulletin on Saturday warning of the risks of vertical transmission of Oropouche fever from pregnant women to their fetuses, Agencia Brasil reported.
Brazilian health authorities Thursday reported the first two Oropouche fever deaths in the country and the world. The victims were two women from Bahia, aged under 30, with no comorbidities, it was also explained. The malady is said to cause symptoms similar to those of severe dengue fever.
