    New York and world leaders captivated by pope Francis humble magic

     Francis waved to the crowd surging against barricades as the pope-mobile made the 15-minute trip. Some 80,000 people received tickets to the processional.

    Francis was greeted by tens of thousands of people as he drove through New York City’s Central Park on Friday, a processional that marked his biggest public event in the city. An ear-piercing roar rose from the crowd as his open-sided pope-mobile made its way slowly through the park.

    New York cheers Francis; today he addresses UN General Assembly

    St Patrick's cathedral bells pealed as Francis waved to and blessed the crowd, even giving the occasional thumbs-up.

    Pope Francis kicked off his second United States stop in New York City with a Thursday evening prayer at St. Patrick's Cathedral, one of the United States best-known churches. Thousands of people lined up along Fifth Avenue to greet him with cheers as he made his way in his open-sided popemobile to the center of one of the US largest Roman Catholic archdioceses.
