Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Wednesday that his country was “an unfinished republic” soo long as there is still some inequality between men and women and in order to solve that a referendum will be held in November to remove sexist content from Constitution.
The administration of Uruguayan president Jose Mujica suffered a major setback over the weekend and could experience a further showdown on Thursday when members of the ruling coalition vote in Parliament the annulment of an Amnesty or Crimes expiration law which impedes the investigation of human rights violations committed during the country’s military dictatorship (1973/1985).
Uruguay must remove obstacles to prosecuting human rights offences committed during its dirty war in the 1970s, including an amnesty that had protected military and police officers accused of killings, kidnappings or torture, the Inter-American Human Rights Court ruled.
