An optimistic Lacalle warns about authoritarian temptations

During his speech at the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit in Santo Domingo, Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou spoke about the need to “serve the weakest” and avoid “authoritarian temptations.” Lacalle also underlined the importance that ratifying the Mercosur trade deal with the European Union would have in that regard.

Maduro finally skips Ibero-American Summit despite announcements otherwise

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros canceled his trip to the Ibero-American Summit in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, thus joining Mexico's Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Brazil's Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, and El Salvador's Nayib Bukele as those leaders missing the regional event.

Lula cancels trip to China due to health problems

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced Saturday that he was canceling his trip to China due to health reasons. The South American leader, who skipped the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit in Santo Domingo to visit the Asian country instead, was to leave on Saturday and then on Sunday after a rescheduling that failed to meet Lula's recovery.

Presidents Boric and Lacalle hold talks in Santo Domingo

Presidents Gabriel Boric Font of Chile and Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay held a bilateral on the sides of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Among the topics discussed was a joint interest in hosting the 2030 football World Cup. In addition to Boric, Lacalle also held a meeting with Spain's King Felipe VI.

The Veterinary Department can confirm that, following a major implementation of enhanced bio-security across the Islands, there have, to date, been no confirmed cases of avian influenza (bird flu) in the Falkland Islands wild or domestic birds.

Falklands contracts qualified explosive ordnance disposal expert for housing development

Following an extraordinary sitting of ExCo, it has been approved for Fenix Insight Ltd to provide a qualified Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Adviser for the development works of Bennett’s Paddock. This decision follows the discovery of a number of unexploded munitions while excavation work has been undertaken to develop properties.
