  In a daring attempt to swim across the Rio de la Plata from Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, to Argentina, experienced Uruguayan swimmer and surgeon Gonzalo Leal tragically lost his life.   Uruguay and Argentina agree to move on with River Plate dredging

  

  Foreign Ministers Omar Paganini and Diana Mondino agreed Wednesday during a one-on-one meeting in Asunción (Paraguay) that Uruguay and Argentina needed to move forward with the dredging of the 14-meter access channel to the port of Montevideo. Argentina's Mondino and Uruguay's Paganini met before the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) in the Paraguayan capital.

  Buquebus orders largest 100% electric high-speed catamaran ferry in the world

  

  Shipbuilders Incat Tasmania has begun construction of what they claim will be the world's largest electric ferry boat. The 130-meter-long unit has been ordered by Buquebús, the company offering passenger services between Buenos Aires and the Uruguayan ports of Colonia and Montevideo through the Río de la Plata. It will have room for 2,100 travelers and 226 vehicles, it was reported.
