  Water transfer pipeline operational in Uruguay to fight drough

  

  Water began being transferred from the San José River dam to the Aguas Corrientes area of the Santa Lucía River in a move to alleviate the drinking water supply to the Uruguayan capital, it was reported in Montevideo. The works carried out in record time are expected to result in lower salinity in the metropolitan area.

  Britain confirms financial assistance to five Eastern Caribbean countries

  

  Britain is providing assistance to five Eastern Caribbean countries “to help them return to economic growth while managing the risks from external shocks”. The Department for International Development (DFID) Caribbean says it will work closely with Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica under the new program that runs until 2020.

  The Caribbean and Colombia ban entry of travelers from Ebola stricken countries

  

  A group of Caribbean countries have announced bans on entry to foreigners who have travelled through the three West African countries most affected by Ebola. Jamaica said it would not accept travelers from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for the time being.

  Argentina is hoping to use its “strong political commitment” with St Lucia to strengthen ties with the wider Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping, its ambassador Marcelo Aldo Salviolo has said.
