  Putin thanks Trump for helping to foil terrorist attack in St Petersburg

  

  Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Sunday thanked US counterpart Donald Trump for intelligence that helped to foil attacks on Russian soil, the Kremlin said. Putin thanked Trump “for the transfer, through special services, of information allowing the prevention of terrorist acts in Russia”, the president's office said in a statement.

  Russian beluga whale spy “turns in” to Norwegian fishing vessels

  

  A beluga whale found off Norway's coast wearing a special Russian harness was probably trained by the Russian navy, a Norwegian expert says. Marine biologist Prof Audun Rikardsen said the harness had a GoPro camera holder and a label sourcing it to St Petersburg. A Norwegian fisherman managed to remove it from the whale.

  First container vessel attempting the melting Arctic sea route north of Russia

  

  Danish vessel setting sail from Vladivostok this week is set to become the first container ship to tackle the Arctic sea route north of Russia. The Venta Maersk, owned by Maersk Line, and carrying 3,600 containers, hopes to reach St Petersburg by late September. That could be up to 14 days faster than the southern route via the Suez Canal.

  A gallant Nigeria almost KO Maradona in St Petersburg

  

  Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona may have gotten a little too excited during a FIFA World Cup match on Tuesday. The 57-year-old collapsed after his home country won 2 to 1 against Nigeria in St. Petersburg, Russia, according to a video posted by the Spanish-language newspaper La Nación.
