    Controversy in Westminster over “legal witch hunt” of British troops that served in Ulster

    Defense Secretary Williamson warned of a “witch hunt” over government plans on setting up of an historical investigations unit in Northern Ireland

    More than one third of Tory Members of Parliament, including a former Defense secretary - have written to the prime minister to demand an end to “legal witch hunts” of military veterans. Signatories to a letter delivered to Theresa May on Tuesday also include more than 50 members of the House of Lords, including four former chiefs of defense staff.

    Sir Nick said serving and former service personnel should face action for “genuine” wrongdoing, but groundless cases “will not happen on my watch”

    The new head of the armed forces says he will not allow British soldiers to be “chased” by people making “vexatious claims” about their conduct in the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Chief of the Defense Staff General Sir Nick Carter told the BBC serving and former service personnel should face action for “genuine” wrongdoing, but he vowed groundless cases “will not happen on my watch”.
