    Released British-Israeli soldier discusses plight with PM Starmer

    Damari told Starmer she had been kept at various UNRWA facilities

    Emily Damari, the Israeli soldier who grew up in south-east London and was taken hostage by the terrorist organization Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, spoke Friday on the telephone with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whom she told about her ordeal. Upon her release, she made headlines worldwide for having lost two fingers and because her sexual orientation (lesbian) had been kept from public knowledge to avoid further damage from her captors.

    UN agency banned in Israel

    “These bills increase the suffering of Palestinians and are nothing more than collective punishment,” UNRWA Chief Lazzarini said

    Israel's Knesset (Parliament) passed bills Monday preventing the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) from working in the country. The agency has been active in the region for 70 years and has around 20,000 employees to provide education, healthcare, social and humanitarian assistance. The measure is expected to hamper the agency's work in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, Agencia Brasil reported.

    The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Friday sacked 7 of its workers for their alleged involvement in the Oct. 7, 2023, raids by the terrorist organization Hamas into Israeli territory killing some 1,200 people and taking hundreds hostage, which triggered the ongoing crisis given Tel Aviv's stern response.
