Argentina announced on Wednesday the start of a joint scientific cruise in Falkland Islands' waters to assess Southern blue whiting reproductive biomass, in the framework of the South West Atlantic Fisheries Commission Scientific Sub-Committee activities.
The Illex squid fishery season starts on February 14 and 105 licenses have been offered confirmed Director of Natural Resources John Barton. He added: “Not all vessels which applied received licenses. The number of licenses offered is the same as the last few years.”
Next February first and after fourteen years Argentina and the United Kingdom will again be involved in a scientific assessment cruise of the Illex squid in the South Atlantic.
Argentina baptized and received on Saturday in Vigo, Spain a state of the art scientific fisheries research vessel which will be incorporated to Mar del Plata based INIDEP's (National Institute of Research and Fisheries Development) fleet of vessels involved in promoting a sustainable fishing industry.
