Wild boar have descended from the hills around Barcelona in Spain while sika deer are nosing their way around the deserted metro stations of Nara in Japan.

  Falklands' January storm causes massive loss of Rockhopper penguin chicks

  

  84% of Rockhopper chicks on Sea Lion Island have died as a result of a storm that hit the Falkland Islands on January 14/15. Strong easterly winds on the island, which lies southeast of East Falklands, launched sea spray on to the colony for more than 48 hours, to deadly effect, said owner Mickey Reeves.

  South African diver experiences “a whale of a time” but survives

  

   A diver who ended up trapped in the mouth of a massive whale joked that he didn't have “a whale of a time” but called the unique encounter “a very special event.” 

Rainer Schimpf, 51, was diving off the coast of South Africa with a documentary crew in February when the breaching whale reached the surface, its mouth wide open.
