    Falklands and South Georgia stand out in WOAH “Devastating Biodiversity Loss” report on HPAI

    In South Georgia, new infections are being reported in southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina), compounding losses of nearly 50% of breeding females since 2023. 

    The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has released a critical statement on the devastating impact of High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) on wildlife populations worldwide. The organization reports that the current panzootic is causing unprecedented ecological disruption and mortality rates across a rapidly expanding range of species.

    Chile gives nod to pork imports from Brazilian State of Paraná

    Paraná is Brazil's third pork exporting State

    Chile has officially recognized the Brazilian State of Paraná as a region free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, allowing imports of pork from this area, it was announced Wednesday during President Gabriel Boric Font's visit to South America's largest country, and confirmed by Chile’s Agriculture Minister Esteban Valenzuela. Chile has also been reported to be negotiating meat imports from other Brazilian states, meeting its phytosanitary standards. In exchange, Brazil has opened its market to Chilean honey imports.
