  Falklands, Uruguayan scientists talk on advanced technology for wildlife conservation

  

  Two advanced students from the School of Electronic Engineering from the main government university in Uruguay, Universidad de la Republica, are currently in the Falkland Islands and will be giving an insightful talk on AURORA, a solar powered wildlife monitoring device, this Wednesday March 26, at 17:00 hour in the Falkland College.

  Falklands: Unexploded landmine disposed of at Yorke Bay, close to Stanley

  

  The Falkland Islands government has confirmed that overnight on Monday 16 August, the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Joint Operations Command Centre at Mount Pleasant Complex was contacted by the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) regarding possible unexploded ordnance at Yorke Bay.

  Mines-free Falklands will remove fences of fields that remained out of bounds for almost forty years

  

  The Falkland Islands Executive Council (ExCo) approved a proposal to remove the fences which secured former minefield sites around the Islands over a three-year period of 2021 to 2024.

  Falkland Islands celebrate becoming mine-free after almost 40 years

  

  Today 14 November 2020. the Falkland Islands have been officially declared mine-free, almost 40 years after the end of the Falkland Islands war. The minefield danger signs and fences that were once the hallmark of the invasion have all finally been removed, and the community is again free to enjoy some of the Islands’ most beautiful areas which have been off-limits since 1982.
