  Central American airline picks Montevideo as regional hub

  

  Central American airline TACA announced this week the expansion of operations with two new routes linking Peru and Uruguay and San Salvador with the California city of Oakland. The flights will be officially inaugurated next October and November.

  Uruguayan fisheries exports reached 105 million US dollars in the first half of this year, which represents a 13% increase over the same period a year ago according to Daniel Montiel, head of the Uruguay's Aquatic Resources Office, Dinara.

  Botnia plant workers on strike demand better safety conditions

  

  Workers of the Botnia pulp mill in Uruguay voted Friday to continue the work stoppage begun Thursday, until next Monday alleging “insufficient guarantees”. This week several workers were intoxicated with sulphur sodium during trials at the plant, which is in the heart of an international controversy with Argentina.

  FAO signs agreement to improve fisheries management in Uruguay

  

  Uruguay and FAO, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, signed last July an agreement for the implementation of a three years fisheries management project which hopefully will make Uruguay's fishing industry more efficient and with greater technical emphasis.
