    Falkland Islands acting governor until the end of April sworn in

     John Duncan will take the post of British Virgin Islands governor in mid-year

    John Duncan OBE was sworn in as Acting Governor of the Falkland Islands on Thursday at 5pm at Government House, in advance of the arrival of the Islands’ next Governor Colin Roberts CVO at the end of April.

    Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica in 'Sea Spirit' 2015/16 expedition cruises

    Originally built in 1991, 'Sea Spirit' and 'Sea Explorer' have undergone technical upgrades such as ice strengthening

    Poseidon Expeditions has chartered the 114-passenger Sea Spirit for polar operations starting in May 2015. Built as Renaissance V in 1991, the 4,200 gt ship currently operates on charter to Quark Expeditions and is managed by FleetPro Ocean. For the 2015/16 season Poseidon will offer expeditions to Antarctica, Falklands and South Georgia.

    Falkland Islands with an acting governor until April

    Colin Duncan will be in office until Governor Colin Roberts arrives and then off to Virgin Islands

    Falkland Islands former Governor Nigel Haywood CVO departed the Islands on Tuesday and his successor, Colin Roberts CVO, is not expected to take up his post before late April. In the interim, John Duncan OBE has been designated as acting Governor of the Falkland Islands and acting Commissioner of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands.

    HMS Richmond is back in Portsmouth at the end of her South Atlantic patrolling that saw her spend 2,881 hours at sea covering 33,316 nautical miles, visiting seven foreign countries (Portugal, Cape Verde, South Africa, Panama, Colombia, Bahamas and the United States of America) and five British Overseas Territories (Ascension Island, St Helena, Falkland Islands, Tristan da Cunha and South Georgia).

    Falklands oil company completes 3D survey; prepares drilling program for next year

    Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd, FOGL, announced on Monday the completion of its 3D seismic survey offshore the Falkland Islands. This is the third and final 3D survey prior to the next drilling program, which is expected to commence in early 2015, said the company in a release.

     The poll showed Uruguay supports Argentina's sovereignty claims but rejects the ban on Falklands' vessels operating from Montevideo

    A majority of Uruguayans, 55%, believe their country must support Argentina's sovereignty claims over the Falklands/Malvinas Islands but an overwhelming 80% also want closer trade links with the Islands and reject the ban on Falklands flagged vessels to operate from Montevideo or other Uruguayan ports. In both cases neutral opinions range 11% and 12%.

    Three crewmen from a Taiwanese jigger operating in Falkland Islands who were reported missing over the weekend have not been located. The first news of the incident was received in the early hours of Saturday February 15, when the Department of Fisheries Operations Sections notified the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP).
