Two licences have been issued by the South Georgia Government, to fish for a species, which was nearly fished out in the late 80's. Champ Soccy Phalus Gunnari, commonly known as Ice Fish was made famous when it was discovered that it's blood, which contains no red cells, acted in a similar manner to anti-freeze, allowing the fish to survive in very low temperatures. The two vessels, which will commence fishing on 4 December, are the Chilean Trawler Betanzos, which is currently docked alongside FIPASS undergoing engine repairs and the San Denis, which used to be with Polar. The latter is expected to arrive in Stanley this weekend. The South Georgia Government has placed a limit on the amount of the species available for targeting.

FIDF ? Increased Competence and Confidence
Members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force have increased confidence and competence for dealing with a poaching incident following recent training with the Royal Navy. On Friday members of the navy had an informal meeting with members of the force and on Tuesday several exercises were carried out offshore. More than ten members of the FIDF boarded the Patrol vessel, Dorada whilst she was travelling at ten knots. They also fired the 20-ml guns and carried out drills to refine their command and control. To test out their survival equipment they jumped from the stern of the Dorada into Port William and set off personal flares. The Sea Rider was in the water to pick the men up and the John Byron was on standby as a safety boat. A spokesman for the defence force has said that the exercise went well.
