The Río Negro government's Fisheries Advisory Council is calling on fishing companies to evaluate the future distribution of hake quotas since this is the most important resource in the San Matías Gulf.

Interested parties will have 10 days to submit suggestions and comments on the amendment to Provincial Fishing Law No. 1,960.

Meanwhile, the Río Negro Fisheries Directorate met businessmen and fishermen's representatives to exchange views on the assignment of individual transferable fishing quotas, especially for hake, in the San Matías Gulf.

According to the local newspaper Río Negro, the meeting included delegates from the companies Alpesca, San José and Pesca Austral, artisanal fishermen's representatives, Fishermen's Union, and Food Union representatives, as well as Coast Guard officials based in San Antonio Oeste and Patagones. The San Antonio Oeste mayor, Adrián Casadei, the president of the Atlantic Zone Fisheries and Development Commission, Edgardo Corvalán, and other MPs were also present at the meeting.

Following the meeting, delegates carried out a detailed analysis of the Fishing Law and had an opportunity to raise questions or comment on the law. They agreed on some articles of proposed amendment and presented the government with a proposal agreed by consensus which aims to meet the needs of all the sectors involved, said MP Alfredo Lassalle.
