Headlines:
LAN Chile couldn't unload the cargo; High winds moved MPA dish; Harbour news.
Wind
Seventy eight miles an hour was the highest gust recorded at MPA on Saturday. The wind caused havoc in the Islands and in particular MPA with the LAN Chile flight and the BFBS transmitter.
The LAN Chile plane landed in the afternoon and while it was on the ground couldn't unload the cargo from the plane as it was too dangerous.
Fortunately incoming passengers did manage to get their baggage which was unloaded using a smaller hatch that opened inwards.
The aircraft finally left MPA at around seven in the evening. Because no cargo was unloaded from the plane several businesses have been affected.
Falkland Printz had their paper on board and unfortunately will not be able to keep their promise of a fast recovery from the current backlog.
They ask people to be patient and bear with them. As do DHL who are in the same boat. They say that it's unlikely that the mail will arrive before the weekend and they apologise for any inconvenience.
And fresh produce may be a bit short this week as two tonnes of cargo for Stanley Growers also went back out on the flight.
BFBS
There has been a development with the British Forces Broadcasting Service transmitter.
The high winds on Saturday actually moved the dish off its alignment which is why the signal from the satellite had been lost.
Albert from BFBS has been working extremely hard to try and sort the problem out and has enlisted the help of the RAF who will be helping move the dish back to its rightful place.
So hopefully things should be back to normal sometime this afternoon.
And to add to the troubles there are to be no Archers today as the feed-line from BFBS has also been knocked out of sync. When things are up and running the Archers will return. Harbour
The weekend's high winds caused slight damage to the CFL Pioneer. The seventy-knot gusts bent an aerial on the longliner.
In other harbour news, carrier Luma arrived on Saturday to drop off some of the equipment for the Morrisons South Georgia project. She will be back with the rest of it on Friday.
Tanker Zalgaris came into Berkeley Sound over the weekend. Damaged trawler Feralimos had her engine fixed on Saturday, and has now gone out to rejoin the 34 other vessels fishing in the Zone. Catches remain good for these vessels, except for finfish, which are below average.
