    Punta Arenas expects 71 cruise calls.

    A new increase in the number of international and local cruise calls is expected this coming season in Punta Arenas. Jorge Norambuena, president of Magallanes Association of Tourism Operators, (Austro Chile) revealed that 71 cruises are scheduled to call in Punta Arenas and/or Puerto Natales, plus another thirty by Punta Arenas based “Mare Australis”, compared to the 57 and 22 of last season.

    Ozone Committee September active.

    Public opinion polls and focus groups among different locations of Magallanes Region residents will be carried out during the coming six months with the purpose of determining community perception of the thinning of the ozone layer and the increase of UV radiation that begins every year in September in southern Chile.

    ARA Libertad visits Portsmouth.

    The Argentine Navy sail training frigate last week ARA Libertad paid an informal visit to Portsmouth, Britain, and is now expected in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
