The concluded this Sunday. The event not only exceeded the organisation expectations, but also enabled some business that could become historical for the Spanish fishery, pointed out Alfonso Paz Andrade, president of the Exhibition Executive Committee, during the closing ceremony.

The executive stated that the business volume handled during the WFE was more than EUR 384 million.

For five days, the most important exhibition in the world as regards fishing machinery, and aquaculture solutions increasingly was visited by more than 70,000 professionals of the sector, making of the WFE the international fishery attention focus.

According to Paz Andrade, the big success of the WFE has to do with the International Minister of Fisheries Conference that coincided with it and was attended by twenty-six leaders from all over the world.

"This has had a definitely positive effect. The professionals have been more linked to the exhibition. All of them have been able to visit shipyards, our nets factories, transformation".

"Besides, each minister had a locomotive effect on his business. Almost all of them were accompanied by commercial delegations from their countries".

Paz Andrade pointed out the exhibition was also visited by an important business group from Russia, which with its proposals join the visitors from Taiwan, China, New Zealand, Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, and Falklands/Malvinas Islands, among others.

In the case of the latter, Vigo and the exhibition were visited by their Governor, Howard Pearce, who offered a conference, on Saturday, in order to update the press on the changes that are to be carried out in the fishing management of the Isles. He most of all wanted to establish direct contact with the Galician and Spanish companies that operate in his waters.

On the other hand, during the last two days of the WFE, the II International Seminar on Safety Management in Fishing Activities. José Luis López Sors, general director of the Merchant Navy, commented that such institution is working on a project that will make the use of life vests mandatory on board of all kinds of vessels.

The World Fishing Exhibition closed with great results, and the expectations of the business that will realise in the next three or four years, said Paz Andrade.

The need of a new exhibition centre that allows to enlarge the number of exhibitors and visitors, was highlighted by the organisation head, as well as by the Vigo mayor, Ventura Pérez Mariño, who was in charge of closing the event, and promised, for the next edition, installations that adapt to the exhibition magnitude.
