China expects to receive 64 million tourists by 2010, which will make her the main tourist destination in the world and the third in revenue, according to a report from China's Nacional Tourism administration.
The report indicates that by 2010 China will be receiving the equivalent of 42,6 billion US dollars from tourism, with an annual 8% growth.
However the benefits from domestic tourism are expected to be even more promising, and could reach approximately 90 billion US dollars said Shao Oiwei, head of the Tourism administration.
"Tourism will create 9,8 million direct jobs, stimulate domestic demand and investment", added Mr. Oiwei.
"China is committed to promote tourism and improve the quality of service in the coming five years, which undoubtedly will help regional growth and urban development".
In Beijing only during the first six months of 2004, the number of foreign tourists reached 1,7 million which represents a 26,2% increase over the same period last year.
However mostly were from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan which for all purposes, including visas, are considered foreigners.
