Chile Summer time begins midnight Saturday when clocks have to be advanced sixty minutes. This leaves Chile three hours behind Greenwich meridian time, GMT.
Summer and winter time changes in Chile date back to forty years ago implemented with the official Decree 1.489 and have the purpose of saving energy by taking advantage of sun light. Summer time will last until the second Saturday of March 2008 when clocks will be set back sixty minutes. Uruguay also turned to summer time, advancing clocks 60 minutes but a week earlier on Sunday October 7.
