Chile is implementing an early alert system to detect Red Tide (mr-SAT) that should be operational beginning January 2008 was announced Wednesday by the country's National Fisheries Service (SERNAPESCA).

Argentina and Chile to sign huge Andean shared mining project

The governments of Chile and Argentina will sign an agreement this week pushing forward the development of another massive bi-national mining project. The deal is intended to hurry approval of work at “Las Flechas” mineral deposits by using existing treaties and protocols to govern its construction.

EU warns China of “backlash” if trade gap persists

The European Union trade commissioner warned that China needs to close the trade gap if it wants to prevent a backlash in Europe. Peter Mandelson said that China has become the EU largest trading partner and this status must make Beijing assume “real responsibilities”.

UK house prices fall at fastest rate since 1995 in November

United Kingdom house prices fell at their fastest rate for more than 12 years during November, according to Nationwide Building Society. The average cost of a home in the UK dropped by 0.8% during the month, almost wiping out October's unexpected jump of 1.1%.

Brazilian businessmen requested Congress on Thursday to freeze plans for Venezuela's incorporation to Mercosur following President Hugo Chavez threats to nationalize those private companies contrary to the constitutional reform of his making which Venezuelans will be voting Sunday in a referendum.

British Airways daily flight to Gibraltar in smaller craft

British Airways will operate one daily flight to Gibraltar using a 737 300 which is likely to feature up to 30 club seats and 89 economy. And, as the EasyJet takeover of GB Airways remains to be completed, flights on the current GB Airways schedule are still being sold into the spring in addition to the BA flights. But it is not clear that these will be sustained.
