VISITING British Members of Parliament have congratulated the Falkland Islands Government on their high standard of administration.
Labour politician Jeff Ennis headed visiting as Commonwealth Parliamentary UK Branch Members the delegation. Speaking to the Falkland Islands Radio Station he said it had been an important visit in order to "get a feel for the place and meet with members of the Administration," who, he said, "are doing a first rate job." He said the delegation discussed a number of issues with Government Representatives in the islands including, "â€Â¦the continuing situation with one of your big neighbours – Argentina – which is still in the centre of the radar screen." Mr Ennis added, "We have also talked about economic regeneration of the Falklands and the Argentine Next of Kin visits." Regarding the recent 'controversy' between the Falklands Government and the Foreign Officer on the matter of whether or not Next-of-kin should visit by charter flight as opposed to ship, Mr Ennis said, "I don't know if Meg Munn's comments may have been misinterpreted. The Governor was much more conciliatory about taking it forward to the satisfaction of both the British Government and the Falklands Government." Asked for his thoughts on the intended visit of the Argentine President to the United Kingdom, Mr Ennis said he would very much like to see a CPA presence at the meeting between Mr Brown and Mrs Kirchner. The delegation assured Falklands press that they hoped to make progress on Falklands issues within both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, on their return to England. Mr Ennis, Paul Holmes (Liberal Democrat) Lord Jones of Cheltenham (Liberal Democrat) and Lord McColl of Dulwich CBE (Conservative) spent a week in the islands accompanied by the Falklands Representative in London, Sukey Pullen.
